Twin City Vegan Comfort Food Challenge 2021

After a long break from posting, this event seemed as good a reason as any to get back up and running! These events are always a good motivation to get out and try some new restaurants that have some regular menu items that they would like to highlight, or some places that are considering adding more plant-based options to the menu and use the event as a trial!

So far I have gotten to try a few great places and am enjoying some newer restaurants, etc.

Curry in a Hurry: Dal Bowl

Curry In A Hurry is the reincarnation of Gandhi Mahal, which was lost in the events of last Summer. The restaurant is a little more casual and currently operating for takeout and has some very reasonable prices for their bowls, sides, and various menu items.

They entered their Dal Bowl for the challenge, which was a great dish! They have some more information about the dish and their entry to the event on their blog. I enjoyed it and the convenient location, not far off of 94 makes it accessible to most anyone in the metro area! We tried the Dal, Aloo Begun and Samosas were all great and I will definitely be back! I am glad that they participated in the event and gave me another reason to check them out!

Avocadish: Spicy Vegan Sandwich

Avocadish participated in the last challenge as well and I was not able to make it out to try them, so I was glad that they entered their Spicy Vegan Sandwich in the comfort food challenge as well! It was flavorful, with paprika mushrooms and avocado hummus on multi-grain bread. I would definitely go back and enjoyed the atmosphere of Graze Provisions + Libations on my first visit!

Soul Bowl: Vegan Caribe Bowl

Soul Bowl‘s Vegan Caribe Bowl is definitely worthy in the competition as well! We went back to Graze Provisions + Libations for this dish and to try this dish and were not disappointed! The tropical flavors were welcome and warm in the frigid temps that had a hold on us that weekend! The Vegan Jerk Chicken, pineapple and plantains were a nice combination and I could have this dish daily as it checked off many of my favorite flavor combinations.

Reverie: Breakfast Burrito

Reverie entered several items from their all-vegan menu for the challenge. Their Breakfast Burrito is by far my favorite in the Twin Cities and I have a hard time ordering anything else when I go there for brunch. Their potatoes and beans are seasoned to perfection, and the coconut rice is always a delight as well!

Other restaurants participating include the following (hopefully I will get to try more!):

Birchwood Cafe: Green Curry

Black Dog Café Lowertown

Hard Times Café: Chick’n Fried Tofu Sandwich

Hark Café: Hot Dish Arancini

Keefer Court Bakery & Café: Kabocha Congee

Minneapolis Marina, Inc.: Perfecto-squash & Vegan Meatballs

Miss Garrett’s Vegan Soul: Soul Food Platter

Namaste Café: Vegan Masala Meatballs in Chili-Tomato Sauce

Nightingale: Winter Vegetable Stew with Celery Root-Black Truffle Broth

Parkway Pizza (4 locations): Vegavore Pizza and Vegan Artichoke Dip

Root to Rise Kitchen: Fettuccini Alfredo with King Trumpet Scallops, Broccolini and a Caesar Salad

The Naughty Greek: The Ultimate Vegan Pita
